Taylor Swift Eats: A Recipe for Every Era
Ginbucha, BBQ Picnic Wraps, and the Ultimate Prime Rib
I reached a place of acceptance: I wasn’t going get to see Taylor Swift, and that was okay! I get anxious in big crowds, and my TikTok algorithm is filled with Eras Tour Uber fails. SURELY it wouldn’t be worth it.
But then, *the universe* stepped in.
The shockingly high pitched squeal that escaped me aside, the fact that I started crying when I told my therapist “I GET TO SEE TAYLOR” tells me that I’m more than a little excited to participate in the cultural phenomenon and fairly certain it will heal me completely. Dr. Sean wholeheartedly agrees (or at least, that’s what I gathered from his laughing with/at me).
So because I cannot think about anything other than TAYLOR SWIFT right now, I hope you’ll humor me with the following.
“Taylor Swift” Era:
Classic. Nostalgic. Country. Completely delightful.
BBQ PICNIC WRAPS (as promised!)
Prepare the ribs:
Prepare spare ribs by removing the membrane. Season generously with salt, pepper, and dry rub of choice. Leave in fridge to brine a minimum of 2 hours up to 24.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Remove ribs from fridge. Dab any moisture with paper towel. Seal rack of ribs tightly in tin foil. Roast in oven sealed in the tin foil for 3 hours.
Keep ribs sealed and rest them out of the oven for 1 hour.
Take ribs out of tin foil and place on sheet pan. Brush generously with barbecue sauce on all sides.
Set broiler to high. Place ribs under broiler until caramelized.
Remove bones and shred the meat. Set aside.
Make the wraps:
Warm large flour tortilla in skillet, ensuring it’s cooked through but not burnt.
Combine the rib meat, gochujang everything slaw, and feta cheese.
Wrap (proper burrito technique here) and serve.
“Fearless” Era:
Frying requires fearlessness and optimism. And energy that seems only possible in one’s 20s, but I swear it’s worth it for this recipe!!
FRIED HALIBUT TACOS
Prepare halibut following this simple beer batter recipe.
Prepare yogurt sauce by combining full fat Greek yogurt with fresh lime juice, a pinch of salt, and as many dashes of hot sauce as you’d like.
Serve on GOOD corn tortillas with avocado, the everything gochujang slaw (I mean: everything), fresh cilantro, and yogurt sauce.
“Speak Now” Era:
A bit of a “pick me,” and we LOVE her for it. She deserves all the attention.
PEACHES BURRATA FLATBREAD
Pre-cook store bought pizza dough at 450 degrees until done.
Slice ripe peaches into wedges. Place in bowl and combine with olive oil, pinch of salt, juice of a lemon, sliced fresh basil, and toasted pine nuts.
Remove pizza dough from oven. Spread pesto generously. Arrange slabs of burrata cheese evenly.
Top with peaches mixture. Sprinkle with Maldon Flaked Sea Salt. Drizzle with high quality balsamic (a little goes a long way) and hot honey. Option to add prosciutto.
“Red” Era:
Red era HAS to be something with red meat. And when I think about a recipe for the people I love, it has to be my Ultimate Prime Rib strategy.
ULTIMATE PRIME RIBE
Follow Joshua Weissman’s instructions precisely. He breaks it down really clearly in this video.
Slice and serve with Samin Nostrat’s Fried Sage Salsa Verde. She also has a great tutorial here.
“1989” Era:
Like 1989, Alison Roman’s “The Stew” garnered massive buzz because it’s good and everyone likes it. Full recipe here. Video tutorial here.
“Reputation” Era:
Reputation may not be for everyone, in the same way that gin isn’t, in the same way that kombucha isn’t. But it’s brilliant. And so is the combination of gin and Kombucha.
GINBUCHA
Combine a shot of your favorite gin (botanical varieties like Hendricks work great) with the juice of half a lime. Stir with ice.
Top with Blueberry Basil Wild Tonic Kombucha. Stir and enjoy!
“Lover” Era:
What is more “Lover” than heart cookies???? Nothing. Find the recipe for these Sweetheart Sablés by Smitten Kitchen here.
“Folklore” Era:
Folklore is brilliance in the midst of the shit that was 2020. Cooking vegan can be terrifying for those of us who don’t partake. This recipe is TRULY a god send.
“Evermore” Era:
Sometimes I forget about Evermore. I KNOW IT’S A CRIME. But then, suddenly Champagne Problems comes on, and it is powerful. Thus, the seemingly humble cobbler that hits exactly when you need it to. See below:
ULTIMATE COBBLER CRASH COURSE
“Midnights” Era:
Much like the many versions of Midnights, there are a million different ways to do ramen. It’s a meal to eat at midnight when the depression prevented you from eating actual dinner. It’s always there for you.
Here are 5 Creative Ways to hack it for those who haven’t tried!
Happy Eras Tour to all of those who celebrate. And to those who don’t, I hope you make some cobbler anyway.
Happy Eating!!
